The following is a list of external fellowships for doctoral students in computer science. Note that nominations for the IBM, Google, Microsoft and Simons fellowships are submitted by the department, and the department can only nominate a limited number. Applications for the other fellowships are submitted by individual students.

- CSGF: (Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship) Application will be available in late October 2010. Only US citizens and permanent residents.
- Facebook Fellowship Program Deadline: Dec. 16. Students are nominated by a faculty sponsor.
- Google Fellowship. Deadline: February 1, 2013. The department can nominate two students. Open to students who will have completed their coursework and will be engaged in full-time research by September 2012. If you wish to apply, your advisor should notify Prof. Davis by January 12
- Hertz Graduate Fellowships. Deadline: November 2, 2012. Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Self-nominating.
- IBM Ph.D. Fellowship. Ph.D. students past the first year are eligible. If you wish to apply, your advisor should send notify Prof. Davis by October 15.
- Microsoft Research PhD Fellowship. Deadline: October 9, 2012. The department can nominate three students. Open to students currently (AY 2012-13) in their 2nd or 3rd year. If you wish to apply, your advisor should notify Prof. Davis by Sept. 21.
- Microsoft Reseach Graduate Women's Scholarship. Deadline: October 16, 2012 Open to women students currently (AY 2012-13) in their first year. If you wish to apply, your advisor should notify Prof. Davis by Sept. 21.
- NDSEG (National Defense Science and Engineering Fellowship. Deadline: December 16, 2011. Only U.S. citizens or nationals (not permanent residents). Self-nominating.
- NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP). Deadline: November 18. Open to students currently (AY 2010-11) in their first year. Only US citizens and permanent residents.
- NVIDIA Graduate Fellowship. Deadline: December 8, 2011. Doctoral students past the first year are eligible. Students are nominated by their advisors.
- Simons Graduate Fellowships in Theoretical Computer Science. Deadline: May 1, 2012. The department can nominate 1 student. Two-year fellowship. Doctoral students in theoretical computer science with a record of publication are eligible. If you wish to apply, your advisor should notify Prof. Davis by April 1.
